Self Care

Self Care is about treating minor illnesses at home and seeking help when you need it. It is also about managing any conditions you have in a way that puts you in control, improves your quality of life and avoids you getting ill.

There is a wealth of information which can be found through the CCG’s self-care information by clicking on the following website Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG Self Help

Pharmacy Minor Ailment Scheme

The Pharmacy Minor Ailments Service is primarily designed as a “walk in” service so that patients exempt from prescription charges of all ages can access self-care advice for the treatment of minor ailments and, where appropriate, be supplied with over the counter medicines, without the requirement to attend their GP practice for an appointment and prescription.

This scheme is available to patients exempt from prescription charges who are registered with a general practitioner in the Sandwell & West Birmingham CCG area.

Patients can access the scheme up to a maximum of 6 times in a 12-month period.

A list of the conditions covered, and the participating pharmacies can be found here - Pharmacy Minor Ailment Scheme
